David and Goliath

Malcolm Gladwell

Conventional wisdom holds that a disadvantage is something that ought to be avoided — that it is a setback or a difficulty that leaves you worse off than you would be otherwise. But that is not always the case.
The one trait in a lot of dyslexic people I know is that by the time we got out of college, our ability to deal with failure was very highly developed. And so we look at situations and see much more of the upside than the downside. Because we're so accustomed to the downside. It doesn't faze us. I've thought about it many times, I really have, because it defined who I am. I wouldn't be where I am today without my dyslexia.
Courage is not something that you already have that makes you brave when the tough times start. Courage is what you earn when you've been through the tough times and you discover they aren't so tough after all.
