Stoicism and Western Buddhism

Strange as it may seem, the Buddhism that most Westerners practice today is not the same as the Buddhism of the Buddha and, likewise, the Stoicism of many modern-day Stoics is not the same philosophy as that of the original Stoa. And yet the subsequent modern 'reinventions' of both philosophies are far more similar to each other than their respective ancient forms ever were.
